Yarrabilba High School Petition
Yarrabilba has approval for 11 primary and secondary schools over the next 20 years but with the Yarrabilba State Primary School nearing completion for its first intake in 2018 many locals are starting to push for the First State School to also be fast tracked.
The Jimboomba Times is reporting that many Yarrabilba secondary students are spending up to 15 hours a week travelling to and from school which is simple incredible.
A PETITION in support of opening a secondary school at Yarrabilba has attracted high level support from Logan City division 4 councillor Laurie Koranski and state member for Logan Linus Power.
Last week, Cr Koranski and Mr Power met with representatives of the Yarrabilba Community Association to discuss what they described as the “pressing need” for a local secondary school.
According to Cr Koranski, with Yarrabilba’s first state primary school opening next year, the community will need a high school sooner rather than later.
“We have a city the size of Gladstone exploding out of the ground,” she said.
“Local kids from Yarrabilba, Logan Village, Tamborine and Jimboomba are spending more than 15 hours each week travelling out of the area to go to school.
“That time could be better spent doing homework, playing sport or spending time with their families.
“The land’s ready, let’s get building.”
