A JOBS training centre has opened at Yarrabilba, in Logan City’s south.
The Exchange will teach job seekers a range of skills and put unemployed in touch with employers in the local area.
The centre, established by developer Lendlease, is expected to cater for residents of neighbourhoods including The Avenues, Oak Leaf, The Retreat, Sunrise Crossing, and Vista.
Economic Development Queensland also supported the project, which includes services from yourtown, formerly known as BoysTown and the Gold Coast School of Construction and Access Community Services.
Lendlease said one-stop training shop aimed to join employment agencies, businesses, social enterprises and community groups.
Lendlease communities business managing director Matthew Wallace it was a unique partnership.
“The Exchange will initially play an important role in connecting the community with construction job opportunities, which may expand to different industry types as the community and local economy grows,” he said.
Logan City Council’s Division 4 councillor Laurie Koranski said Yarrabilba was growing rapidly.
“What better way to feed into the prosperity of our community than to foster opportunities for people to work where they live?”
Lendlease said The Exchange would be relocated from time to time to ensure it remained close to the construction frontline and relevant to future industry and community needs.
