Yarrabilba Behind Logan Jobs Boom

The massive growth and construction projects at Yarrabilba and Flagstone have been identified as the driving force behind positive employment numbers just released for Logan which shows an extra 12,600 jobs being created in the city last year till November.

Quest newspaper’s Judith Kerr has reported online today :

LOGAN has become Queensland’s boom town with 12,600 extra jobs created in the city in the year to November.

Affordable housing projects at Flagstone and Yarrabilba stirred growth over the year, putting Logan at the top of the employment list.

Logan and Beaudesert recorded an unemployment rate of 5.7 per cent over the year but Logan mayor Luke Smith said the region still needed about 30,000 jobs and as many as 70,000 over the Levitra USA

next 15 years to cope with demand. But women, and those from a multicultural background, still faced challenges entering the jobs market for the first time.

A Logan Central community group, Multilink Community Service, has taken up their plight and is providing access to training and employment opportunities for 180 culturally diverse people of all ages across the city. The programs are funded under the state government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work Community Work Skills Initiative.

The MultiLink training programs are specifically designed to help women returning to the workforce, youth, and culturally linguistic people of all ages gain a nationally accredited Certificate II or III level qualification in areas including child care, aged care, food processing and vocational work. The courses vary from six weeks to 26 weeks. Marsden grandmother Michelle Miles completed a Certificate III in Individual Support at the Woodridge-based service after she lost her job caring for a disabled boy.

After graduating, she reapplied for her old job and is now fully employed as an educator and support worker for the young disabled boy she worked for before.

MultiLink is conducting local course information and registration sessions.

For details, contact Bob Kennard or Leonie Rapana on 3412 7112 or call into MultiLink at 38 Blackwood Road Logan Central.
